Hammerhead are one of the most famous sharks. These sharks have odd shaped heads that resemble a hammer. Now these heads might seem to be really useless but they seem to have an advantage. All sharks have an organ on there snout/nose called the ampullae of Lorenzini help sharks sense electric fields in the water that are given of by other fish. Now back on track their heads have more of these, they swing there heads back and forth to sense fish. But the cool thing is that their large flat heads hold more of these than other sharks.
Hammerhead sharks have attacked a few times but do not attack very often and are not the most dangerous of sharks. Hammerheads range from 5-20 feet long and can have 4-42 pups depending on type. There are about ten different types of hammerhead sharks, including Great hammerheads, bonnethead and smalleye along with others.
