Whale sharks are the largest fish in the world. Growing up to thirty to sixty feet long, they might look dangerous but they are not. They only eat plankton, and have never eat anything other than plankton. Their large mouths are as long a van! Like every shark in the world, whale sharks have teeth. These teeth are the smallest shark teeth and really have no purpose.
How do whale sharks eat plankton without baleen?
Whale sharks do not have baleen to filter plankton out of the water. Whale sharks swim forward to filter out plankton, the water and plankton go into the sharks mouth. The water leaves through the gills and the plankton stays in the mouth and gives the shark a nice meal.
Are whale sharks rare or common?
Whale sharks are not that rare, but like many rare sharks we do not know to much about them.
Whale sharks are beautiful and most people know what a whale shark looks like. They have the most pretty white spots and their body is a gorgeous dark blue-gray color.
Whale sharks supposedly can have up to twelve pups.
