Thresher sharks are my all time favorite sharks, ever, in the whole world. Thresher sharks are found in all the oceans in the world, and I mean, ever single one. The scientific name for the thresher shark, alopex vulpinis, means fox shark, which is awesome.
Thresher sharks are well know for their super duper long tail. This tail has evolved to help this shark hunt it's pray, such as mackerel, juvenile tuna, bluefish, squid and cuttlefish. (Cuttlefish are adorable!) Thresher sharks smack the fish, and other animals with their overly long tail. It is super epic to watch it. The pray is stunned and sometimes even killed and the sharks eat them.
Thresher sharks give live births and are 150 cm at birth, they can grow up to 20 feet. There are three type of thresher sharks, the common thresher, the big eyed thresher and the pelagic thresher. the common thresher are the largest of the three. Threshers are not overly dangerous to humans. They can have 2-6 pups.
